My Favourite Place

Imagine walking out of the recycled air of a aircraft cabin and being hit by a wall of warm, moist air that carries the scent of sea, flowers, frying chicken, roti and sweetness. Welcome to my most favourite island and home of my forebears...Tobago

Brief history
Found by Columbus in 1498, rediscovered by the English in 1508, 'owned' by the Dutch, Spanish & English across successive years. It even had a Latvian settlement on it. The English & French squabbled over it until it was ceded to the English in 1814. In 1962 Tobago and her bigger sister island Trinidad gained independence from Britain, finally becoming a republic in 1976.

What else can I tell you? Apart from being home to the huge brood that is my extended family, Tobago is home to the world's oldest forest reserve and a most excellent island. If you visit don't drop litter or I will hunt you down!
Why a tree picture? The tree is called a silk cotton tree and is absolutely mahoosive. The trees were used to hang runaway slaves. Island legend has it that if the trees were cut down the souls of the slaves would roam and generally cause havoc.
Yeah I know... nice island shame about the superstition
