What next?! The illustrious Ruth Kelly has admitted that people placed on the Sex Offenders Register have been employed in schools. Good grief! Have the authorities learnt nothing from the Ian Huntley case? Is there anything else the Govt. can do to mess up the education system (more than they already have)? Yesterday saw reports that the Secondary system was failing Britian's children, prior to that we were told that literacy hour had been a complete waste of time and moves were afoot to change the way children learnt to read.
I, for one, am fed up with the Govt. tinkering with schools and look forward with much anticipation to Lucy's de-registration day. I've spoken with other parents who are equally unhappy about their child's education, who've toyed with the idea of home schooling, but at the last minute changed their minds and fled into the arms of another (thankfully better) school. However, this fool has always been quite happy to rush in where angels fear to tread!
Roll on the end of July and freedom from the school run. I've been packing out the storage shelves with educational books, kits, crafts, games etc. to make Lucy's home schooling days fun and exciting. I've linked myself with a local home schooling group and am looking forward to spending more time with them. Lucy wants to start now and has been badgering me to go places once we start home schooling. What could be more fun than wandering around the capital's museums, the countryside, Europe, the Caribbean, kids in tow, opening their eyes to a different way of learning?
