The Best Of Times... The Worst Of Times

The Best
When they are months old, it's chucking it down outside but you and youngling are snuggled in a blanket. You lean forward and bury your nose in soft baby hair that smells of peaches, raspberry & white chocolate muffins and honeysuckle all rolled into one. Mmmm
When they are months old and they look into your eyes ... and smile!
When they are 2 and they start to laugh for no other reason than it's fun to be alive.
When they are 3 and they laugh at your funny faces. Gratifying.
When they are 4 and you look at each other and burst out laughing.
When they are any age and you still enjoy that belly cramping laughter together.

The Worst
When they are months old and you're doing that 2am feed and you're so tired you can't think straight. You stink like a rhino 'cause you've not washed in days and then you trip over your own feet.
When they are 9 months old and they are sick. They've thrown up in the cot and their nappy has leaked, forcing you to change them (again) and all the bedding. You feel so tired you could cry and you do.
When they are 2 and they have their first public tantrum and you feel a failure.
When they are 5 and they scream 'I hate you', and you feel a failure.
When you're going through a parent wilderness and you've forgotten your Best Times.

With the sweet comes the sour,
With the dark comes the day,
As I make this parenting journey,
Guide my steps, help keep me sane.

With the joy comes the sorrow,
With the laughter comes the pain,
Keep me focused, keep me steadfast
In the centre of Your Name.

With the strength comes the weakness,
With the hope comes the fear,
Let me feel Your Presence,
Ever sure and ever near.

Just reading this makes you a little scared of the future because you tend to worry about the 'Worst times' rather than look forwar to the best times. I enjoyed the poem though and do look forward to becoming a parent soon!
